    The Rukuns of Fasting (Maliki)

on 3 September 2021 FIQH, ISLAM

What are the rukuns of fasting? What are the steps of fasting?

There are two rukuns of fasting:

    1. To Make Intention

In order for the intention to be considered sahih, it should be made at night or when the sun is rising. After the intention is made, occurrences that take place have no harm on the fast. It is not possible to make the intention to fast for the next day before the sun has set at night or to make intention for the day the person is in before the afternoon.

One intention is sufficient for fasts that need to be carried out back to back, however the fast should not be interrupted due to making a journey, becoming sick or menstruation. It is considered mandub to make a separate intention every night.

    2. To Stay Away from Things That Breaks The Fasting

The second rukun of fasting is to stay away from things that breaks the fasting from when the sun rises up till the sun sets.
