What is the aqiqah qurban?

As a word, aqiqah is the name given to the hairs on the head of a newborn baby. As for aqiqah as a term; is the qurban that is slaughtered out of shukr to Allah Ta’ala for the birth of a newborn baby. This is also called  ‘’nasika’’.

It is sunnah to slaughter the aqiqah qurban. It is sunnah to slaughter one sheep for the male and female child.

The aqiqah qurban may be slaughtered from the day the child is born up until they reach the age of puberty.  However it is more virtuous to slaughter the qurban seven days after the birth of the child. The aqiqah qurban is slaughtered on this day, the childs name is given, their hair is cut. It is mustahab to hand out gold and silver as sadaqa in the amount of the weight of the childs hair.

The owner and their friends-relatives may eat the meat of the aqiqah qurban. They may distribute the meat as sadaqa. As for the skin, in the way it can be used at home, it can also be given as sadaqa.
