According to ʿAbd Allah b. ʿAmr (ra), the Prophet (saw) said, “The merciful are shown mercy by Allah, the most Merciful (al-Raḥmān). Be merciful on the earth, and you will be shown mercy from the One Who is above the heavens. The womb is named after al-Raḥmān, so whoever bonds with it, Allah bonds with him, and whoever severs it, Allah severs His ties with him.” (al-Tirmidhi, al-Birr, 16)
According to ʿAbd al-Rahman (ra), the Prophet (saw) said, “Allah the Exalted has said, ‘I am most Compassionate (al-Raḥmān), and this has been derived from mercy (raḥim). I have derived its name from My name. If anyone connects it, I shall connect him, and if anyone cuts it off, I shall cut him off.’” (Abu Da’ud, al-Zakat, 45; Ibn Hanbal, I, 195)
As related by al-Baraʾ b. ʿAzib (ra), “A man came to the Prophet (saw) and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! I have been afflicted by a tremendous sin. Is there any repentance for me?’ He said, ‘Do you have your mother?’ The man said, ‘No.’ He said, ‘Do you have any maternal aunts?’ The man said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘Then be dutiful to them.’” (al-Tirmidhi, al-Birr, 6)
Anas b. Malik (ra) said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah (saw) say, ‘Whoever loves that he be granted more wealth and that his lease on life be prolonged then he should keep good relations with his kith and kin.’” (Muslim, al-Birr, 20; al-Bukhari, al-Adab, 12)
According to Abu Hurayra (ra), the Prophet (saw) said, “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should serve his guest generously; and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should unite the bond of kinship (i.e., keep good relations with his kith and kin)….” (al-Bukhari, al-Adab, 85)
According to Muhammad b. Jubayr b. Mutʿim, his father (ra) said the Prophet (saw) said, “The person who severs the bond of kinship will not enter Paradise.” (Muslim, al-Birr, 19; B5984, al-Bukhari, al-Adab, 11)
