As related by Ibn Masʿud (ra), a man asked the Prophet (saw), “What deeds are the best?” The Prophet (saw) said, (1) To perform the (daily compulsory) prayers at their stated fixed times, (2) to be good and dutiful to one’s own parents, (3) and to participate in jihād in Allah’s Cause.” (al-Bukhari, al-Tawhid, 48)
ʿAbd al Rahman b. Abi Bakra said his father (ra) said, “The Messenger of Allah (saw) said thrice, “Shall I inform you of the biggest of the great sins?” We said, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah” He said, “To join partners in worship with Allah, to be undutiful to one’s parents.” (Bukhari, al-Adab, 6)
According to ʿAbd Allah b. ʿAmr (ra), the Prophet (saw) said, “The Lord’s pleasure is in the parents’ pleasure, and the Lord’s anger is in the parents’ anger.” (Tirmidhi, al-Birr, 3)
