Hadiths about the prophet (saw) as a friend.

According to Ibn ʿAbbas (ra), the Prophet (saw) said, “If I were to adopt a confidant (khalīl), I would have adopted Abu Bakr, for he is my brother and my companion.” (al-Bukhari, al-Fadaʾil al-Ashab, 5)

According to ʿAbd Allah b. Masʿud (ra), the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “Never was a prophet sent by Allah to his umma before me who had not among his people (his) disciples and companions who followed his ways and obeyed his commands.” (Muslim, al-Iman, 80)

According to Abu Saʿid (al-Khudri) (ra), the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “Do not revile my Companions; by Him in whose hand is my soul, if one of you contributed an amount of gold equivalent to Uhud, it would not amount to as much as the mudd of one of them, or half of it.” (Abu Daʾud, al-Sunna, 10)

According to Abu Hurayra (ra), the Prophet (saw) said, “A man follows the religion of his friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend.” (Abu Daʾud, al-Adab, 16; al-Tirmidhi, al-Zuhd, 45)
