According to ʿAʾisha (ra), the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “Among the most evil of people is the one with whom people are cautious because of his evil.” (al-Muwatta’, Husn al-Khalq, 1)

Al-Barâ’ b. ʿAzib (ra) said, “The Prophet (saw) ordered us to do seven things: Visit the sick, follow funeral processions, say ‘bless you’ to one who sneezes, help the week, help the oppressed, spread greetings, and help others fulfill their oaths.” (al-Bukhari, al-Isti’dhan, 8)

According to ʿAʾisha (ra), the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “Well-mannered people are the ones who will get their share of goodness both in this world and the world to come. Taking care of relatives, having upright moral behavior, and establishing good neighborly relations would bring peace to towns, and make our lives longer.” (Ibn Hanbal, VI, 159)

According to al-Nuʿman b. Bashir (ra), the Prophet (saw) said, “In loving each other and showing compassion to each other, the believers resemble a body in which all the organs share the pain and misery of the one organ that becomes ill.” (Muslim, al-Birr, 66)

According to Abu Hurayra (ra), the Prophet (saw) said, “A believer is a kindhearted person. Those who do not have good relations with other people, and do not let others near to them are not people of good character.” (Ibn Hanbal, II, 400)

AFFLICTIONS AND THE BELIEVER

According to Umm Salama (ra), the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “When one of you is afflicted with a calamity, he should say,
‘We belong to Allah, and to Him we return. O Allah! I expect reward from You from this calamity, so give me reward for it and give me a better recompense.’” (Abu Daʾud, al-Janaʾiz, 17-18; Muslim, al-Janaʾiz, 3)

According to ʿAʾisha (ra), the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “When the believer is afflicted by something, even a thorn, it effaces his sins.” (Muslim, al-Birr, 49; al-Muwattaʾ, al-ʿAyn, 3)

According to Anas b. Malik (ra), the Prophet (saw) used to say, “O Allah! I seek refuge with You from worry, grief, laziness, miserliness, cowardice, heavy debt, and being overpowered by men.” (al-Nasaʾi, al-Istiʿadha, 25; al-Bukhari, al-Daʿawat, 40)

According to Anas b. Malik (ra), the Prophet (saw) said, “None of you should wish for death because of a calamity befalling him; but if he has to wish for death, he should say: ‘O Allah! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and let me die if death is better for me.’” (al-Bukhari, al-Marda, 19)

According to Suhayb, the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “Strange are the ways of a believer, for there is good in every affair of his; and this is not the case with anyone except a believer, for if he experiences delight, he thanks (Allah).Thus there is good for him in it. And if he is afflicted by adversity and bears it patiently, there is good for him in it.” (Muslim, al-Zuhd, 64)
