According to Anas (b. Malik) (ra), the Prophet (saw) appointed Ibn Umm Maktum (the blind Companion) his representative twice in Medina. (Abu Daʾud, al-Imara, 3; Ibn Hanbal, III, 192)
According to ʿAwf b. Malik (ra), the Prophet (saw) said, “Allah the Exalted blames one for falling short, but apply intelligence! When affairs get the better of you, say, ‘Allah is sufficient for me and what a perfect agent (disposer of affairs) He is.’” (Abu Daʾud, al-Qadaʾ (al-Aqdiyya), 28)
According to ʿAbd Allah b. al-ʿAbbas, al-Fadl (his brother) (ra) was riding behind Allah’s Messenger when a woman from the Khathʿam tribe came up to the Prophet (saw) and said, “O Allah’s Messenger! The obligation of making the Hajj enjoined upon the servants of Allah has come due on my father, but he is very old and cannot sit firmly on a mount. May I perform the Hajj on his behalf?” The Prophet (saw) replied, “Yes.” This event occurred during his Farewell Pilgrimage. (al-Bukhari, al-Hajj, 1)
